In a recent interview, President Obama was being pestered by a fly. He had to stop mid-sentence to kill it. He continued to joke about how, “I got the sucker.” and “That was pretty impressive, wasn’t it?” Well, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals has now said that they are upset with him killing the fly. They state that he needed to take a “more humane approach” to getting rid of it. They have now sent the White House a “Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher” which allows the fly to live by being trapped in a compartment, and then later being released. PETA recognizes that while Obama’s voting record for animal rights was outstanding, “Swatting a fly on TV indicates he’s not perfect, and we’re happy to say that we wish he hadn’t.”

I’ve got to say, for once, I have to side with Obama. This is utterly ridiculous. If we just let flies live around us, we’ll catch diseases. Besides, who really cares about flies? (Besides PETA) I’m sorry, but that is just ludicrous to become offended at someone killing a fly.

Uproar in Iran

Thanks to the Internet, texting and other modern technologies, the Iranian youth is now linked together in a sole voice of protest. The recent presidential elections have caused an extreme uproar, as many feel the elections were rigged. Twitter and Facebook are now being used to get the message out. “Police are coming to houses taking people. Beating to those who don’t obey, ” are regular “tweets” being seen from Iranian people. The Iranian leaders have decided that they might have to reconsider the election counts to avoid risking more problems. They government has already turned off phone service, and are imprisoning those who have satellite dishes. They are doing anything possible to keep people from having a voice. How far away are we, the United States of America, from that?

New Twitter and Youtube Channels!

CTTalk has not been entirely dead for the last week. We now have a Twitter channel and a Youtube channel. The Twitter channel will be in full swing, effective immediately, but the Youtube channel will be on hold until other projects are taken care of. Thanks to WordPress’ Twitter upload mode, I can post directly to Twitter from my blog. So, if you are in a hurry, check out the Twitter channel to see if there is anything interesting. It will make things much more convenient for everyone.

Our absence as a team has been unacceptable. I am very sorry that CTTalk has done nothing to bring you the latest news as of late. Soon we are going to have a meeting to get our scheduling problems worked out. Until then, please bear with us as two of the three CTTalk members are preparing for college. He can’t keep secrets

Who is the “He” that is referred to in the title? None other than our very own President Barack Obama. He openly admitted to something that no other President has publicly admitted. The 1953 Iran coup that ended up overthrowing Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh. “In the middle of the Cold War, the United States played a role in the overthrow of a democratically elected Iranian government.” For Iranians, the coup showed that the United States, who was the supposed protector of freedom, wouldn’t give a second thought to overthrowing a democratically elected Prime Minister for America’s own gain. That’s what started the Iranian resentment of the United States. Obama went on to say, “For many years, Iran has defined itself in part by its opposition to my country, and there is in fact a tumultuous history between us… Since the Islamic Revolution, Iran has played a role in acts of hostage-taking and violence against U.S. troops and civilians. This history is well known. Rather than remain trapped in the past, I’ve made it clear to Iran’s leaders and people that my country is prepared to move forward. The question now is not what Iran is against, but rather what future it wants to build.”

Obama a Muslim?

According to recent comments by the Obama administration, America has good reason to doubt the validity of the President’s claims to be Christian. The strongest of his comments is this, “Americans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a Muslim majority country. I know, because I am one of them.” One may say that he’s talking about having a Muslim in his family, (His father is Muslim) but that’s not what I gather from the comment, personally. A different statement came from his deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications, Denis McDonough. He said, “the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to — or before he’s been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world — you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father — obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago.” Obama himself recently called the United States, “One of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”

Ok, I obviously have a lot to talk about, but I’ll keep it minimal. First off, that last comment about the US being one of the largest Muslim nations, is totally false. If the US has the 6 million Muslims it claims, (and that’s a big “if”) it would be exactly the 34th largest Muslim country. The United States of America is, and always will be, “One Nation Under God” .

Permit for Bible Study?

Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been told that they cannot invite friends to their San Diego, Calif. home for a Bible study — unless they are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to San Diego County.

“On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the Bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county.” David Jones told FOX News.

“We told them this is not really a religious assembly — this is just a Bible study with friends. We have a meal, we pray, that was all,” Jones said.

A few days later, the couple received a written warning that cited “unlawful use of land,” ordering them to either “stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit,” the couple’s attorney Dean Broyles told San Diego news station 10News.

But the major use permit could cost the Jones’ thousands of dollars just to have a few friends over.

For David and Mary Jones, it’s about more than a question of money.

“The government may not prohibit the free exercise of religion,” Broyles told FOX News. “I believe that our Founding Fathers would roll over in their grave if they saw that here in the year 2009, a pastor and his wife are being told that they cannot hold a simple Bible study in their own home.”

“The implications are great because it’s not only us that’s involved,” Mary Jones said. “There are thousands and thousands of Bible studies that are held all across the country. What we’re interested in is setting a precedent here — before it goes any further — and that we have it settled for the future.”

The couple is planning to dispute the county’s order this week.

If San Diego County refuses to allow the pastor and his wife to continue gathering without acquiring a permit, they will consider a lawsuit in federal court.

Hello readers! I am back from a 16 day tour of Israel. I had an amazing time while I was there. Towards the end of the trip, I got to meet an incredible man name Itamar Marcus. He is the head of “Palestinian Media Watch”. He gave me permission to use as much of his material as I would like. So, when his new site is up, I will be bringing in a different perspective on a lot of Palestinian politics.

I want to thank Brittany Morris and Nathan Pelletier for doing their best to keep up with the blog! They did a great job in my absence, and I hope that they will keep it up. Our goal is to bring as much new information to you as possible.
